# 🏥 Hospital

![Hospital](https://cdn2.vnations.net/images/buildings/hospital.png)

A **Hospital** keeps a region's population healthy and content. It's one of the larger civic projects, and one of the best for a region's Appeal.

## Requirements

| | |
|-----|-----|
| **VBX cost** | 100 |
| **Productivity required** | 900 |
| **Materials** | 300 Wood, 300 Steel, 300 Fibers |
| **Appeal** | \+50 |
| **Prerequisites** | None |

## Effects

* **−5 Discontent** every day for every NPC living in the region.
* **Medical treatment** for players and NPCs in the region (see below).
* Both only apply while the nation that built it controls the region.

## Getting treatment

Visit the Hospital from your region's dashboard, or **Military → Hospital**, to restore your health in a single treatment. You can only use the Hospital in the region you're currently in.

* Each unit of medicine heals **25 health per tier**: a Bandage (T1) heals 25, a Painkiller (T2) heals 50, and an Antibiotic (T3) heals 75.
* Medicine comes from the **national stockpile** of the nation that owns the Hospital. You don't need any medicine of your own.
* The Hospital uses the highest-tier medicine it can without wasting any, then tops up the rest with the smallest unit available.
* The Hospital page shows the medicine you'll receive, what it costs, and the Hospital's current stock, before you confirm.

### Cost

You pay the nation that owns the Hospital, in its currency:

* the **price per unit** of each tier of medicine used, plus
* a flat **treatment fee** for each visit.

If you can't afford a full treatment, the Hospital treats you as far as your money allows. If the Hospital has no medicine left, or you can't cover the fee plus at least one unit, you can't be treated.

### NPCs

Wounded NPCs visit their region's Hospital on their own once they're missing at least 25 health. They always keep **$5** back for food, so they only spend what they have above that. If they can't get treatment, they buy medicine from the market instead.

## For national leaders

The **Industry Minister** sets the medicine prices and the treatment fee under **Politics → Government Office**, on the **Industry** tab. All payments go to the national treasury, and every treatment uses medicine from the nation's stockpile, so keep the stockpile supplied.

:::info
Working at the Hospital as a doctor is still disabled while that part of the Hospital is reworked.
